Chickpea Patties

Hello everyone 🙂 ,

It has been a while, I hope all is well. So I am back with a food related post. As some of you may know, I have been off meat for a while and I have been looking for  some vegetarian / pescaterian meals to try out. I came across the chickpea patties and decided to try it out.

I really loved how it turned out and I am happy with the taste. This way I am in control of what I put in my body, in terms of the ingredients. I hope some of you try it out, it’s a really simple recipe and you are free to choose what type of seasoning you prefer. It doesn’t get better that this 🙂 ❤ ❤ ❤

It’s been 4 years!!!

Hi friends, 🙂

I hope you missed me 😀  I recently did another protective style, which also happens to be my favourite hairstyle. So what hairstyle is it? you may ask. It’s mini braids ❤ ❤ ❤ I have been doing this hairstyle since my hair got long enough to plait. Back then I was not concerned about how crazy I may look. Come to think of it, I still don’t mind what people may think of my hair or me 🙂

To prep for my hairstyle, I deep conditioned my hair first the washed and conditioned it. I had my hair in 4 to 6 plaits (to stretch my hair overnight), moisturised it with shea butter and called it a day. The next day I undid the plaits  finger detangled each section then twisted them up. I sectioned my hair into 4 and worked on one section at a time when doing my mini braids, applying Aunt Jackie’s  instant detangling therapy and shea butter to each mini section before braiding (plaiting). This was the finished look 🙂

heatless stretched mini braids

I could not believe how long my hair looked without blow drying or using any type of heat on it before braiding. It’s been 4 good years of hair growth and learning and I look forward to many more years.

Chunky Twists

Hi friends, 🙂

I’m back with another hair related post, as you already know based on the title, my current protective style is chunky twists. I was not prepared to do mini twists because I did not feel like sitting down for that. My motto when it comes to my hair is “the less time it takes, the better” 😀  This motto is only relevant for this situation, so if it changes don’t be surprised.

Anyway, this is how I did my hair, really simple. Enjoy ❤ ❤ ❤

African threading Update

Hi friends, 🙂

So I’m back with an update on the African threading that I did a while ago. I had the threading for 2 weeks. I did not have any problems with breakage. I moisturised my hair regularly with water and castor oil. I ended up with a look similar to what I would get if I did a blowout. So for those with tight curls who may be looking for ways to stretch their hair without heat, this is definitely a good way to do so ❤ ❤

African threading

Hi friends, 🙂

From my last post, you will recall that I am currently doing a 6 month protective style challenge. One of the rules is to stay away from heat, and having tightly curled hair I prefer to work on stretched hair. Now that I cannot use the blow dryer I have to find other ways to stretch my hair.

So I decided to do the African threading method to stretch my hair. The great thing about this method is that it has multiple benefits. I get my hair stretched and I use it as a protective style as well. 🙂

This is a really simple and effective way to stretch and protect your hair, provided you do it properly. Do not make the sections too tight to prevent hair loss or unnecessary pain. When removing the threading apply oil to the area where the knot was tied to loosen it and make it easier for your hair to slide out without breakage.

Check out the video I made, demonstrating how I did my African threading. ❤ ❤ ❤

6 month psc pre-length check

Hi friends, 🙂

I have uploaded my starting length for the 6 month protective style challenge (psc). In the video you would notice my giant pimple, stealing the spotlight. Feel free to ignore it, or don’t 😀  Whatever you decide to do is up to you.

Anyway, I hope you guys remember to document your progress with pictures, or by taking a video. I can’t wait to check back in 6 months and see how I did. 🙂

Shine bright like a diamond!!

Shiny hair after egg mask treatment

Hi guys,

I tried out an egg mask for the first time and I was very pleased with the results. As you can see from the picture above, my hair is quite shiny. I really didn’t know what to expect when I did this but I’m glad it turned out pretty good.

I used 2 eggs, honey and avocado oil. I applied the mixture to my hair and left it in for 30-40 minutes. I then rinsed it out and shampooed and conditioned my hair as usual. Check out the video if you would like to see how I did it.

6 month protective style challenge!!!

Hello friends, 🙂

I am going to be doing a protective style challenge for 6 months, starting from 1 July – 31 December 2016.  A protective style is any hairstyle that keeps your hair protected especially the ends of your hair as that is the most fragile part. So hairstyles like buns, wigs, weaves, braids, twists, etc. are considered protective styles.

In order to get the best results from a protective style, it needs to be worn for at least a week without redoing it. Too much manipulation of the hair will be counterproductive and can lead to breakage.

So for my protective style challenge, I will be working on just my hair (i.e. no synthetic hair). I will have hairstyles that I can wear for 1-4 weeks, I will try not to use combs often or at all, no heat, use thicker oils, such as castor oil. Eat well and drink plenty of water.

I would like to reach mid-back length or surpass that by the end of the 6 months. I am currently around bra strap length. So if anyone is willing to join in, feel free to do so and don’t forget to take before and after pictures in order to track your progress.

You can check out this video for more information 🙂 ❤ ❤ ❤

Say goodbye to thinning edges!!!

Hi friends 🙂

Growing up I noticed that black women (mostly) tend to do hairstyles that put a lot of tension on their hairline (edges). For some reason unknown to me, for a hairstyle to look good, every hair on your head needs to be in place and pulled so tight that you can feel your pulse in your head. For the first week you have whatever hairstyle you decide on, you have a surprised look on your face (temporary face lift) 😀 because trying to make any other facial expression will probably rip your hair right out of your scalp 😦

You will think that no one in their right mind will allow themselves to go through such unnecessary pain but you will be surprised to know that a lot of black women deal with this on a regular basis. (NOTE:This problem is not limited to black women)

Many years ago, I had a horrible experience of my own that forced me to learn how to do my own hair and I vowed to never let anyone touch my  hair ever again!!  Thank God I still have hair on my head and that my hairline is still intact. Once I started doing my own hair I realised that it was not necessary to tug on every strand to make a hairstyle look good.

The saying “no pain no gain” has been taken to some other level. Some people need to be told that this does not need to apply to hair. Until they loosen up 😉  their hairline will continue to suffer. This is the most important preventative measure with regards to thinning hairlines. Check out this video for some quick and effective tips on how to repair and/or prevent a thinning hairline. Share the video and save a hairline today 😀

See you in the next one 😉
